DIALOG
DIALOG was searched for (online learners or online teaching) and (higher education) and (evaluation or assessment). From there a 4th facet was added regarding Communities of Practice. The limiters were: peer reviewed, English, from 2012-2013, dt=article, rt=journal article, and scholarly journals. This led to 962 hits. Next I excluded all non-relevant database, added a 4th facet on community building and have the total number of hits down to 228.
Here is a screen shot of one of the top 5:
McPhee, Iain, and Tor Soderstrom. 2012. Distance, online and campus higher education: Reflections on learning Outcomes. Campus-Wide Information Systems 29, 3: 144.155.
Content: What I learned:The research attempted to compare face to face learning with online learning.
The researchers studied separate online and f2f courses from Scotland and Sweden. The c ourses from both universities used their respective syllabi but it was identical for their online and f2f classes. Grades and student performance scores were evaluated. The research showed that there was no difference between the two types of course delivery regarding grades and test scores.
Searching: What I learned:The ProQuest interface takes some getting used to because I am used to searching DIALOG Classic.
